The Chicago Journalists Association is pleased to announce that its associate board director, Rebecca Jacobs, was recently recognized for her journalism work by the North Dakota Newspaper Association.
She received awards for rookie reporter of the year and public notice journalism at the association’s 130th annual convention on May 6.
“It was an honor to be recognized for my work,” Jacobs said. “I haven’t been in the journalism game that long, but it’s my passion, and each day I do my best to report good journalism for the people it affects.”
Jacobs graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign last year and has worked at the Grand Forks Herald in Grand Forks, North Dakota, since September. She started as a general assignment reporter and now covers the crime and courts beat.
Later this summer, she will become the new crime and courts reporter for the Post-Tribune, the Chicago Tribune’s suburban newspaper in northwest Indiana.
“Rebecca has always been one of my go-to directors,” said CJA associate board chairman, Stephanie Choporis. “She’s extremely helpful and has already accomplished so much in her young career. She’ll continue to do amazing things.”
