If you’re interested in learning about the storytelling behind documentary filmmaking or discovering a Chicago journalist who covered Nazi Germany, please join the Chicago Journalists Association for an opportunity to meet journalist and documentarian Vanessa Johnston to learn about her film, “Eyes on Evil: The Story of Sigrid Schultz.”
The documentary tells the story of Schultz, the Chicago Tribune’s Berlin bureau chief from 1925 to 1941, who reported from the heart of Nazi Germany as democracy crumbled into dictatorship.
Called “that dragon from Chicago” by Hermann Göring, Adolf Hitler’s No. 2 man, Schultz’s fearless reporting angered the Nazis as she was one of the first American journalists to warn the world of the horrors of Hitler’s regime.
Johnston is a documentary filmmaker and video journalist based in Washington, D.C. She founded Plumline Films, a production company that specializes in history and current affairs documentaries. She was recently hired by Civil Eats as a video producer and previously was a news producer for Reuters.
This event will be moderated by Asal Rezaei, CBS News Chicago reporter and CJA board member.
Tickets are free for CJA members; $10 for non-members.
