Membership Dues

To join and remain an active member of our prestigious organization, applicants must email a CV/resume to chicagocja@gmail.com, and our Board of Directors will review at our next Board meeting.

Once accepted, former and active journalists, media professionals and students must adhere to the following annual membership dues structure.

• Students/Retirees/Freelancers/Unemployed Journalists: $15 (Pay dues here.)

• Working Journalists: $25 (Pay dues here.)

• Associate Members: $35 (Pay dues here.)

*Note: Associate members are individuals who work in media-related roles, such as public relations, communications, academics, etc.

Member Conduct

CJA expects members to be respectful of one another and create a safe and helpful environment for all. This organization started as an association serving veteran journalists, and it has since expanded to be inclusive and welcoming of all Chicago area journalists and journalism-adjacent professionals. We value diversity, equity and inclusion in our membership and leadership positions.

The CJA Board of Directors reserves the right to deny or rescind membership based on an individual’s conduct or professional integrity. In the rare instance of denial or rescission, CJA will use its discretion to issue warnings on a case-by-case basis and inform any applicant or member of the reason for such a decision.
